Easy Summer Pasta Salad.......penne pasta, cucumbers, peas, blanched green beans, grape tomatoes, shredded Parmesan cheese, and dried wild blueberries (Trader Joe's) which give it a little burst of sweetness.......toss with a pear champagne vinaigrette.
Good Monday evening..........was today the most glorious day. The hydrangeas
are from my gardening efforts yesterday. Mother Nature has such an amazing ability to paint her flowers using an incredible pallet of color.
I must make mention of the recent arrest of 2 Ohio State football players........for those who did not hear the news, they were arrested for peeing in the bushes at the Boggie Inn. The only thing I can say about this..........is there a man alive who has not peed in the bushes when nature called. Did this really require an officer pursuing the 2 young men on foot, creating paper work by giving them a citation, and taking the court's time to hear such nonsense. Is there not something more important that this officer could have done with his time? Are there not people being robbed, and shot in the city that could benefit from police help?????? Seriously let's learn to prioritize what is worthy of punishment, and what is not. On a lighter note, I went to see THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL, which I highly recommend. I found it to be hilarious, excellent acting, a wonderful story and memorable lines. I loved the hotel owner's mantra, "everything will be OK in the end, and if it is not OK, then it is not the end.......wonderful way to view life.
Know that if today were perfect........there would be no need for tomorrow.
Have a wonderful tomorrow, andPut on Your Pearls Girls and enjoy the day.
I received some interesting responses to my blog from last night......let me be perfectly clear that I believe that Hillary Clinton is one of the brightest, most intelligent persons on the planet, not just a smart woman, a brilliant person, regardless of gender. So my critique of her hair was a simple observation, and I am sure, knowing how bright she is, she would agree, that her hair is not good. And if appearances are not important than minimize the "get ready" work and have short hair. ...thanks Rochelle- I was about to agree with everything you said, but I like Hillary's long hair!! She had it short for a long time and she is back to her younger self when she had it long...
....So agree about Hiliary's hair! and gay marriage rights! who cares who lives with one another and shouldn't they have the same rights!...
...I only wish i had one tenth of "Hillary"s brain....i think with her grueling schedule....no one to help get her ready as when in the white house, she has a difficult time with it.... but i agree, a little something is better then nothing.....and not everyone can wear long hair.....she does look better in short....aside from that, she does a bang up job!!! i wish people would leave the gays alone.....my husband always says, why can't they be married and be as miserable as the rest of us....those are his words of wisdom.....as usual, i loved your blog!!... Hillary knows to put on her pearls, as does Michelle so....... PUT ON YOUR PEARLS GIRLS AND HAVE A JOYOUS WEEK-END
Peonies, and roses and weeds OH MY.....today was my first day in the garden, and it is a garden gone awry. It is not exactly weeds, because my son Jason, always tells me that weeds are only things that you don't want in your garden. Call them what you want....... due to the lack of a deep frost and cold this winter the garden looks like greens on steroids. I have day lilies and spider's wort growing everywhere in thick dense clumps. A little is lovely, even more is OK, but this is over the top. The day lilies have taken over everything. As I was thinning the lilies I found star gazer lilies that were being dwarfed, and roses that were being strangled.
The stone paths that the garden pixies follow were lost in the jungle, and my hydrangeas were one sunny day from being choked and smothered.
Well one small area is now clear, and the rest awaits the "weedinator"......in the famous words of Scarlet O'Hara, tomorrow is another day.
On a positive political thought, thank-you President Obama for supporting gay and lesbian unions.......if only the political powers would call this a civil union, and not a marriage, the church would be removed from the discussion, and people could live their lives as they choose.
I feel as though I should comment about the nonsense conversation regarding Hillary's hair, little make-up and glasses, but what is there to say. An attractive woman, not so much, and should she care more about her appearance.......she is beyond brilliant, and she was dressed nicely, so does it matter......well it shouldn't, I know in my head that it shouldn't matter, but would a bit of mascara, blush and even a ponytail be asking too much. I applaud Hillary for being comfortable in her own skin, but being a woman with bad hair as I am, does she need long locks.....Hil, think about Judi Dench, and consider a short do. It is easy, always looks good and ready to go.
Well the evening is fleeing quickly, and I have a book, The Paris Wife, to finish before my copy of 50 Shades of Grey arrives.

I started this blog this morning, and before I knew it I pushed the wrong key, and ooops the entire piece disappeared.......my thoughts were so clear and sharp, and now not so much. I had passion this morning, but now it seems like old news, and my enthusiasm has moved on to a fabulous fund raiser that I attended this evening, but first let me summarize my thoughts from this morning. CBS morning show did a segment with Douglas Brinkley, political historian, on David Maraniss' interview in Vanity Fair. Maraniss has written a new book "Obama:The Story" which deals with Obama's path to the White House. Apparently there is a section in which Maraniss interviews former girlfriends, college friends, professors, and anyone who knew him during college. Genevive Cook, former girlfriend, who kept a journal, and may I mention that Mr. Buckley referred to the journal as a custom people had back in the day when they wrote by hand in a book.....back in the day when people wrote by hand, President Obama was in college in the 80's. Am I that old, that back in the day refers to the 80's.......anyway that has little to do with Mr. Maraniss. Mr. Maraniss, Pulitzer Prize winner, quoted a woman who was the president's girlfriend 20+ years ago, and interestingly enough had nothing interesting to say other than she dated Mr. Obama for a year, and he was committed to studying, wanted to do well in college, and had ambition. This is news, and worth a Vanity Fair interview and CBS segment, am I missing the relevance of historical moments or should I say the lack of relevance of these non-historical moments. I love Charlie Rose and his cohorts at CBS, but wasn't there anything else happening this morning? Tonight however I went to a fundraiser, which was very relevant. In Christy's Shoes, aids Dress for Success and Zussman House, which was established by Katrina Levy Zidel in memory of her twin sister Christy, who lost her battle with brain cancer a few years ago. What an evening.......450, mostly young gorgeous women "dressed for success" came to raise money for a wonderful cause. I could not believe the outstanding turnout........it is heart warming to see young women developing the spirit of giving, and supporting a great cause. I had the opportunity to speak with Vicki Bowen Hewes, founder of Dress for Success in Columbus, who believes in the necessity of women helping women........well women helped women tonight, and I am sure that a great deal of money was raised. Katrina, an amazing night was had by all...... what a tremendous tribute to your sister giving to an organization which helps women develop confidence to move forward and seek success. I went to see "Chimpanzee" today, and I don't have words to describe this incredible, amazing movie. I am usually not at a loss for words, but the chimps are beyond description. Their faces, their eyes are so human like, that I can't find the words to describe them. And the relationship between the mother chimp and her baby Oscar is tender, loving and beautiful. This is a must see movie, and I believe some of the proceeds go to save the chimpanzees. In the 1960's there were a million chimpanzees, and today there are around 200,000. If chimps wore jewelry I know that they would choose a simple strand of pearls, so......... Week in review.......Facebook bought Instagram for $1billion dollars this week. Amazing.....Instagram has only been around for 18 months. I need to work on creating an App or social site!!!!!! A random Democratic strategist named Rosen, no relation, makes a stupid comment about Mrs. Romney being a stay at home mom, and the news coverage was amazing. President Obama takes time to respond to this, Michelle Obama tweets, Mitt kvetches. I mean really, do people have too much time on their hands. I believe the leader of the free world has better things to talk about than the gigantic responsibilities of a stay at home mother. Doesn't every one know that motherhood is the biggest job in the world. Ms. Rosen made a ridiculous insensitive and stupid comment, but why do we need to discuss it. To quote my mother, "an Empty Truck Makes a Lot of Noise". Most important happening this week TODAY: Happy Birthday Benjamin and Happy Birthday Randy

I can not believe that a year has gone by since last I wrote, but there is no need for an excuse, because actually I don't have one. Anyway, today I am writing because I was writing a "fan" letter to Howard Schultz, my hero, and was checking a few statistics regarding Super Pac contributions, and call me naive, but I am amazed at the amount of money that these pacs have contributed to the Republican primary. Mr. Adelson, LV Sands, has given a staggering amount of $16 million+ to Newt Gingrich. Why I ask.....is Mr. Adelson impaired in some capacity??? Newt Gingrich has no chance of winning any thing. Nothing, absolutely nothing, so why is a successful businessman throwing millions of dollars away. How irresponsible of Michelle Bachmann, Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and the rest to raise money to satisfy their own egos. They wanted to lead our country, to represent the people, but all they did was satisfy an overblown ego. People, if you truly believe in America, and care about Americans, then how about using your ability to raise money to create jobs. Get on board with Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks, and his job initiative, and create jobs for the American people. Google and Banana Republic are joining, and so should the rest of the major players in the business arena. If you truly love America and Americans then bring our jobs back, and stop supporting foreign economies. Let us go back to making things, which is what this country does better than any other, and let us stop with the strategies, and become the doers once again. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE WORLD THAT A SENSIBLE WOMAN COULD NOT SETTLE IN AN AFTERNOON......... SO PUT ON YOUR PEARLS GIRLS, AND ENJOY THE DAY
